How can I find the name of my SCOM Management Group?

Today I was asked how can I find the name of my SCOM Management Group? Well it’s a pretty straightforward question and has been asked and answered several times on the internet but I thought I’d quickly post it here for those that might have the same question.

So I thought I’d provide a couple of ways to do it.

First, open up the SCOM Console and have a look in the title bar…it’s right there at the top.

Another way is to query either the OperationsManager Database or the OperationsManagerDW Database. You can simply execute the following against either:

SELECT ManagementGroupName FROM __MOMManagementGroupInfo__

Management Group - SCOMCulham Database

Bear in mind though, these options will only show you the Management Group you’re connected to right now. It’s entirely possible you might have more than one. Maybe you have a lab and a production Management Group. So you could have an agent that has several Management Groups that it is connected (or multihomed) to.

If you want to see all of the Management Groups, you can open up the Registry and navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HealthService\Parameters\Management Groups

Here you’ll find all of the Management Groups listed.

Optionally you could use Windows PowerShell for the same thing.

Get-ChildItem “HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\HealthService\Parameters\Management Groups\” | ForEach-Object {Get-ItemProperty $_.pspath | select -expandproperty PSChildName}

Of course you also have the Control Panel applet option too.

So you have a few options there.
